About

I work on the machine learning that has to survive contact with hardware.

Right now that means a digital twin for a glass fiber furnace at the Northwest Ohio Innovation Consortium, and a master’s thesis on hip osteoporosis risk from CT imaging. Before that, three assignments at the Ohio Department of Transportation, three published papers and a granted patent.

I build machine learning systems for physical processes — furnaces, hip scans, roads, microscopes — where the measurement is as hard as the model. Drifting instrumentation, unlabelled imagery, boundaries that genuinely are not sharp.

The through-line across my research is hybrid fuzzy–deep learning: a fuzzy layer to handle the ambiguity, a deep model to learn the structure underneath it. Fuzzy C-Means with a CNN for tumour margins that blur into healthy tissue. A fuzzy inference layer with a deep LSTM for unstained cells. Fuzzy logic control with gradient boosting for thermocouples submerged in molten glass. Same method, three fields, because they are the same class of problem.

Right now I am an ML engineer at the Northwest Ohio Innovation Consortium, building a digital twin for a glass fiber furnace — a virtual sensor that keeps reading when the physical one fails, a forecaster, and an optimiser that pre-positions the furnace hours ahead of a production change. Before that, three assignments at the Ohio Department of Transportation, an API team internship at Park Place Technologies, and three published papers.

The earliest of those papers is the one carrying the credential I am least likely to repeat. FlowerBot, an undergraduate robotics project on a flower-plucking arm, was published at ICECA in 2022 and granted as patent IN 573184 in October 2025 — the same shape as everything since, vision applied to a messy physical process where the measurement is the hard part.

I am partway through a master’s in computer science engineering at the University of Toledo, which finishes in Summer 2027. I am looking for full-time ML engineering and research roles from then, and for internships in the meantime.
